Monastiraki Flea Market is located in the heart of the oldest part of the city called Monastiraki.  A metro station is situated right off the picturesque main square which has a stunning view of the Acropolis and connects to the flea market streets. One section is tightly lined with shops selling souvenirs emblazoned with ‘I Love Greece.’ Others are filled with antiques shops, jewelry shops and vendors selling Greek handicrafts.

On Sundays, when stores are closed in Greece, Avyssinias Square become an open flea market where   antiques and bric-a-brac items are bargained for off tables and carpets. There’s also a gypsy market close to the Eleonas metro stop.

Athens Central Market on Athinas Street will grab your senses. Greek vendors sell fresh meat, fish, fruit, spices and products from all over the country. Pass by hanging meat carcasses, bellowing vendors and stalls of Greek deli delights.

Located off of Syntagma Square, Ermou street is a long pedestrian way lined with famous international brands including Benetton, Mango, Marks & Spencer, Zara and Sephora. You’ll also have a chance to shop Greek brand names like Tsakaris Mallas, Follie Follie and Hondos Centre.

Malls and Outlets

The Mall was constructed after the 2004 Olympic Games in the center of Maroussi a northern suburb of Athens.  Easily accessible via the Neraziotissa train station, The Mall has three floors lined with clothing shop, movie theatre, grocery store and food court.

Also in Maroussi, you can shop in another mall called Golden Hall. Located quite close to The Mall, Golden Hall is known for its shops dedicated to upscale, luxury brands.  It has a food court on the top floor.

Greece’s first designer outlet called MacArthur opened in 2011. Located about a half an hour outside of Athens, the modern outdoor mall has an open-air village look complete with marble walkways and water fountains. Brands like Polo, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Nike and Diesel headline the selection of shops. Families enjoy the playgrounds, cafés and restaurants on the property.
